How Easy Is It To Change The Pads On A Rear Drum Brake In A 1995 Bmw E36 Compact?

September 28th, 2009 5 Comments   Posted in BMW

My passenger side rear drum brake has recently started grinding which I assume is it telling me the pads are worn. I am considering attempting to change the pads myself and wanted to know the complexity of the task, before I continue or pay a mechanic (over the odds) for the work.
I am fairly confident at most smaller DIY jobs.
Thanks

Actually I have 2 questions. My BMW Z3 needs new rear brake pads. I bought the pads myself but want a repair shop to install them.
1. What is the estimated labor time to replace the rear brake pads?
2. What’s the average hourly labor charge by mechanics?

How Difficult Replacing Rear Brake Pads Bmw Z3?

I have never replaced brake pads on a car, much less a BMW Z3. So to avoid high labor costs at a BMW dealer or independent shop, do you recommend a novice take it on? What tools are necessary for the job? So, do it myself or fork out the bucks?

I heard this from a service advisor at a Honda dealership hence my reluctance to believe him. So can anyone confirm if I should make sure my brake pads come from Honda.
I think I’ve heard it from someone before back in the day but I’m not sure.
