Do I Need To Input An Immobiliser Code If I Disconnect And Reconnect The Battery On My Bmw E36?

Hi ive looked in the handbook but all it says is how to activate and deactivate,how will i know if its already active?will it ask for code every time i go to start the car?I was never given a code when i bought it.Any ideas?
