Who makes the parts? Will this effect the parts stores and automobile shops working on the cars-will they have a harder time getting replacement parts?Any thoughts or opinions are welcome.

That’s not something anyone has to worry about. To begin with, GM isn’t going anywhere. They just changed their financial status to allow them to write off debt. That’s all bankruptcy means for large corporations, especially those owned by the US Gov’t.
A year from now, GM will be churning out more cars than they were a year ago.

It won’t affect you at all except possibly during the bankruptcy period, but only at an actual dealer just because Chrysler plants are shut down atm, but if most dealers have plenty of backstock of parts, which Chrysler just got sold today so they are basically just about out. If Chrysler had filed Chapter 7 and folded, then the parts would have become more expensive and over time, rarer. But they filed Chapter 11, so suppliers are still making the parts and people with the older cars are still buying them.

Well GM and Chrysler are not the only supplier of part for their car.
We can get part from a other know supplier like China, Mexico, Japan, Canada.
But it sucks that we are loosing our biggest auto builders.
Also sucks that now our parts are not AMERICAN made.!!!!

Not for awhile. But parts won’t be available for the length of time we are all accustomed to. A novel way for forced obsolescence of cars.

  5. Scott W Says:

there wont be any issues as there are a lot of after market parts makers out there already supplying parts and will continue to as long as there is demand for parts.

  6. Rudy H Says:

Parts are made by 3rd party companies. They will be around as long or longer than there is demand.

you should be able to get parts for 10 yrs. at least.
