I have used http://www.carsdirect.com for research to buy my cars. Type in different zip codes in your area, and where the dealerships are to find a lower price. I have found the price can vary by $1,000 depending on what zip you enter.
Like the other poster stated, never pay sticker, use 2 dealers against each other, do lots of research, and be prepared to walk away from the dealer if they wont match your price.
Carsdirect.com has the following prices for the cars you were interested in.
    2008 BMW 128 i 2dr Rear-wheel Drive Convertible $33,185
    2008 BMW 135 i 2dr Rear-wheel Drive Convertible $38,305 w/ 0.9% apr

Car sales are down by a large amount. This causes a problem, dealers are desperate to make a sale but can’t afford to offer a big discount.
The best time to get the biggest discount is the last weekend of the month as the salesperson will be on a monthly target and desperate for the sale.
I have had 3 BMW’s over the last 10 years and never paid full price, play one dealer off against another, get quotes from on-line lease companies (which are good value) and go to a dealer with your credit card or cheque book and let them know you’re prepared to do a deal there and then if it’s better than the others.
Don’t be afraid to walk away from a good deal – tell them to call you if they can knock another £1,000 off. Within a couple of hours you’ll get the call telling you they can do £500.
Don’t rush in, prices will drop over the next 3 months and maybe increase in February amd may.
December and January are the best months to buy as that’s when they’re desperate for a sale.
Expect at least 10% off the full asking price.
    Andy
