Do I Need To Input An Immobiliser Code If I Disconnect And Reconnect The Battery On My Bmw E36?

Hi ive looked in the handbook but all it says is how to activate and deactivate,how will i know if its already active?will it ask for code every time i go to start the car?I was never given a code when i bought it.Any ideas?

ye.p but to save the agro pop sum jump leads from another battery (or charger) onto the battery leads to keep all the electrics in order while u swap batteries etc

You won’t have to enter an immobilizer code. That is something you have to specially active yourself.
But if you have the factory radio installed on the car, you will have to enter a code in order for that to function again. If it loses power, it automatically locks. (It’s an anti-theft feature.)
If you don’t have it, you can call the dealership (they’re not supposed to give it to you over the phone, but they usually will). They may be able to find it out with your VIN, if not, you’ll have to pull the radio (just two screws) and get the serial number off the back.

no you will just have to reprogram the presets on your radio,the imobilizer only works when you enter your own code

No, I changed battery on a L reg 318i and it was fine

i assume you are talking about the code on the onboard computor..if the car starts without you having to enter the code everytime then the code is deactivated.It is perfectly safe to disconnect and reconnect the battery.
